In order to gain equitable work experience in the field in which I was hired when I came to GA, I went back to school (on-line-Kaplan University), which was the only way I could work and go to school at the age of 55. Finished the 4 years in 3, owing a total of almost $50,000. Maintained (all but one quarter) a 3.5-4.0 throughout, but graduated at 3.34 because I took Statistics. I excelled in Algebra, but I just say I completed Statistics with a "C" but hope to never take it again. I've worked for law firms (first-King & Spalding (3 years-clerk), now Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP (paralegal) and had the grades to go on to law school which I declined because in 2008 there were newly graduating lawyers looking for positions as paralegals. I am happy where I am and hope to never actually retire but wonder if I'd applied for the Hope Scholarship would I even have been considered (not having graduated from HS in GA, taking an online course, albeit one of the best schools in which our professors were lawyers and judges). I've paid down my loans to about $40,000 currently. I was a former Army wife who never knew the Government might have helped me with education should I have wanted it (a fact my angry former husband never told me or the children), I am asking if there would be a chance I could still apply GA funding to my situation. If not, then once 70 years of age, I will obviously need to re-think my work situation so that a nonprofit will help with this repayment (note: I've never missed a payment and pay GA taxes willingly-home/car/licensing/insurance/charities) and have NEVER been on the public dole.

Moved as an adult to GA in 2002.
